The Math Zone

The Math Zone is a highly interactive hands-on in-service this emphasizes a Biblical Worldview of Math

In the Math Zone teachers will learn:
  • To effectively use Math patterns. Teachers will be equipped to teach students K-6th the essentials of math patterning and God’s purpose in pattern.
  • The importance of using Math Language in the classroom. Teachers will receive a reproducible math dictionary. An emphasis will be placed on God’s love of language and how teachers need to equip students with language in a culture where students are loosing language.
  • New highly effective ways to teach and reinforce the basic operations using music, dice, and games.
  • To teach place value using tools that will allow students to have a deeper understanding of this critical aspect of mathematics.
  • To use Kim Sutton’s unique number line that uses colored dots to show skip counting, multiples, factoring and prime numbers. Among other uses this number line can be used to reduce fractions.
  • To teach measurement more effectively and how to use Donna Monck’s “MASTER RULLER” to teach students to add and subtract fractions.
  • To effectively implement the Biblical concept of ‘Joy follows Suffering’ in the Elementary classroom.
Additional critical math concepts will be covered.

Biblical Worldview In-Service

A sound Biblical Worldview is a must for every school that wants to better equip teachers for Biblical integration in the classroom.

In Biblical Worldview training teachers will learn:
  • What is a worldview?
  • How is a Worldview developed?
  • The Centrality of scripture to a Biblical worldview?
  • How does Scientific Naturalism inform the worldview of our culture?
  • What is Postmodernism and how does it affect my worldview?
  • How does a Biblical worldview translate to my classroom?
  • Specific ways to Biblically integrate in the classroom.

Making School Friendly for Boys

The majority of teachers in an Elementary school are female. We must be purposeful in making school friendly and inviting for boys. This in-service will help teachers refocus and rediscover what makes school a great place for boys. A great by-product of this in-service is while we are contrasting boys and girls you will learn much about what makes school great for girls. In ‘Boys and School’ teachers will learn:
  • The latest research on boys and how they learn.
  • The emotional world of boys.
  • What kind of teacher am I, and how does that impact the boys in my class?
  • Strategies teachers can use to help boys.
  • The Biblical perspective of maleness and God’s purpose.

This In-Service focuses on:
  • Paul’s purpose in writing the Book.
  • What Romans teaches us about God’s character.
  • Faith and the Sovereignty of God.
  • Implications and applications for teachers and schools.

Classroom Management

This is not your typical Classroom Management In-Service. The focus is not on how to arrange a room but on how to have a classroom that is ordered by God’s word.

In Classroom Management teachers will learn:
  • To use language that fits the occasion and communicates in God honoring and encouraging ways.
  • Learn whether they are a Jellyfish, Brickwall, or Backbone teacher and the consequences of each.
  • To discipline by discipling.
  • How to better communicate with parents.
  • The importance of protecting their relationships with fellow teachers.
  • How to effectively use the Biblical idea of ‘Joy follows Suffering’

Measurement and Fractions.

In Measurement and Fractions teachers will learn to:
  • Teach measurement using the ‘The Master Ruler’.
  • Reduce fractions using the ‘The Master Ruler’.
  • Add and Subtract fractions using the ‘The Master Ruler’.
  • Compare fractions using ‘The Master Fraction’
  • Teach lapsed time using ‘The Master Clock’
  • Measure angles using ‘The Master Angle’
